"It was my teacher’s genius, her quick sympathy, her loving tact which made the first years of my education so beautiful. It was because she seized the right moment to impart knowledge that made it so pleasant and acceptable to me." - Helen Keller

Early Learners Class: Age 2-3

SJLS offers a 3 day or 5-day program for Early Learners. In the Early Learners class, we provide our children with sensory awareness,  gross & fine motor skill activities, art projects, music & movement, science activities, outside play, story time and an environment to help our children communicate & relate with their peers.
We also work in unison with our parents for potty training, table manners, and helping our children become exceptional students.

SJLS offers a 5-day program for our Pre-Kindergarten class.  In the Pre-K class, our goal is to ensure our children are prepped and ready for Kindergarten when their big day arrives!  In this class we continue to focus on the cognitive, emotional, physical and spiritual development of each child.  Our children increase their knowledge of numbers, shapes, colors, and learn both capital and lower case letters. They learn to write their name! Worksheet learning is reinforced with center-based, hands-on fun! Our children also enjoy daily art projects and outdoor play.

Readiness Learners Class: Age 3 by September 30th

SJLS offers a 3-day or 5-day program for Readiness Learners.  In the Readiness class we provide our children with the Pathways to Preschool curriculum that allows us to attend to the cognitive, emotional, physical, and spiritual development of each child.  We emphasize a center-based, hands-on approach to learning.  Monthly themes build excitement around our daily activities. In this class we also do daily art projects, outside time, and introduce the students to worksheet learning to reinforce the concepts of numbers, shapes, colors, and capital letters.

Pre-Kindergarten Class: Age 4 by September 30th

Kindergarten Age 5 by September 30th

SJLS offers a 5-day Kindergarten program, 3 half-days and 2 full days.  One of the major benefits of attending kindergarten with SJLS is the individual attention our children receive in a small class setting. The teacher to student ratio is 1:10. In our kindergarten class, there is a focus on reading and math.  Most students are reading by the end of the year.  The curriculum used is from a variety of publishers and is in accordance with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL).  Former SJLS students transition well into  elementary school and are often at the top of their class.  SJLS alum have attended Universities such as MIT, ODU, William and Mary, West Point, and Virginia Tech.
